One Unit policies

Know the standard before you start.

These policies keep the training system clear for clients and keep One Unit consistent about what is earned, what is included and when a dog is considered finished.

Performance has to be demonstrated

A behavior is not considered finished because the dog performed it once. The Home Life Standard increases duration, distance, distraction and environmental difficulty as the dog progresses.

AKC credentials stay separate

Good Citizen, Good Citizen Community and Become One Unit each include an opportunity to attempt the matching AKC evaluation during the final included private lesson when the dog is prepared and an approved evaluator is available. AKC credentials are earned under AKC rules.

Training transportation

When transportation is included with a training package, it covers One Unit Canine’s standard local service area. Travel outside the standard service area may require an additional transportation fee.

Training reservation deposits

Focus and Foundation use a $250 lock-in deposit credited toward the package total. Payment schedules for longer programs are reviewed before the start date.

Boarding reservations

A 25% boarding deposit locks the reservation. Standard boarding is $40 small, $45 medium and $50 large. Regular drop-off and pick-up are 4:00–6:00 PM; published early and off-window fees apply when requested.

Vaccination requirements

Residential training and boarding require current vaccination records before check-in, including Rabies, Bordetella and DHPP as appropriate for the dog’s age and veterinary schedule.

Continuation & cancellations

Longer residential programs include progress review and owner communication. Private lesson changes require at least 24 hours’ notice.

One Unit Canine separates learning a behavior from proving a behavior. The regular training packages build the language. The Home Life Standard measures how long the dog can hold it, how far the handler can move, what distractions the dog can work through and where the behavior still works.

These programs are separate from the regular Foundation packages. The dog is measured by duration, distance, distraction and environment — not simply by whether it has seen a command before. The package prices below already include the listed owner coaching.

12-Week Working Dog Development

A working dog that stays with the Unit.

Battle Puppy and Battle Buddy are built around a simple rule: the dog works with the family, not away from it. The dog develops obedience, Retrieval, Search / Hunt and controlled Protection / Deterrence inside three protected bubbles: Your Person. Your Home. Your Vehicle.

The Three Bubbles

The dog always has an assigned place to work.

The dog is not trained to chase somebody down or leave the family to create a confrontation. It learns to stay contained, position itself appropriately, alert under control, respond to the handler and recover when the situation is over.

Person

Front, rear, left, right and Heel positions around the handler. The dog helps maintain personal space without pursuing someone away from the team.

H

Home

The house becomes the boundary. The dog can alert, hold an interior position, remain contained and come directly to the handler when called.

V

Vehicle

The dog remains in the vehicle, truck or assigned vehicle position until released, even when activity is happening outside.

Control comes first.

Sit, Down, Place, Recall, Heel, positioning, thresholds, vehicle work, neutrality and recovery become more reliable as duration, distraction and environment get harder.

Retrieval

Bring something useful back.

Possession develops into a controlled pick-up, carry, return, hold and clean delivery to the handler.

Search / Hunt

Use the nose to solve a problem.

The dog progresses from simple hunt games to defined searches, blind article searches and eventually target discrimination with a clear final response.

Protection / Deterrence

Presence without pursuit.

Positioning, controlled alerting, Quiet / Enough, boundary control, disengagement and recovery. The Battle Buddy system is not built around pursuit, attack or bite-work.

Each program is 12 weeks. The names show where the dog is on the working-development scale. An Available Dog profile will only display the stage and accomplishments that dog has actually demonstrated.

Build the worker before asking for adult work. Battle Puppy develops confidence, engagement, environmental stability, desire to work and the first version of every lane.

How to Read a Profile

The record shows what the dog has demonstrated.

A dog does not automatically receive a Battle Buddy stage because it has been in training for a certain number of weeks. The stage and accomplishments are updated as the dog actually proves the work.

Battle Buddy Stage
